I hope your February is fabulous…..here it’s freezing! Frankly I’m getting tired of being cold. We haven’t seen the grass in weeks. Would you believe that camp has had over 20 FEET of snow! Two more snow storms are being predicted for this week by the weatherpeople with more to come. I thank the Lord for my snowplow guy! I’m certainly getting my money’s worth this year! But yesterday I saw four robins and they were all puffed up trying to stay warm I guess. I can’t imagine what they were thinking showing up already this year. Gotta be tough to find a worm around here! Maybe Spring is closer that it looks. It will surely be a welcome sight in my eyes.
At least it’s good quilting weather and I’ve been doing a lot of that! My UFO pile has been getting a workout. Over the years I’ve made a lot of “what if ” quilts that only made it to the needs quilting pile. Of course they are all scrappy and were such fun to make. I actually machine quilted three this past month and I’m hand quilting another. I can’t say I made any headway though because I pieced two more that got added to the need quilting pile. But I had fun so I guess that’s important. I just love to make “what if ” quilts. And there are so many scraps calling my name….sew me!…pick me!!! Someday someone will say “What Was She Thinking?” when they see my huge stack and if I don’t get them all done maybe someone else will finish them.
I’ve loved seeing your progress on this mystery. It will be more fun this next month. Someone asked if we were going to make the french fries this time……maybe kinda sorta….but no. This clue may be a little confusing to get all the pieces mixed up and then put back together. I tried to show how I sorted mine to keep them in order so that I didn’t get confused. Hopefully it will help you stay on track. All I can say is “Good luck and have fun!”
Scrappy French Fries – Clue #2
- Using one assorted colored and one background 10″ squares put right sides together. Draw a diagonal line and sew 1/4″ seam on both sides of the line as shown. Cut on the line. Open and press to the dark side. Trim to 9 1/2″ square. Mark, sew and cut 6 (8) sets. Keep each like color set together.
- Using one set, place colored sides right side together as shown.
- Cut 4 – 1 7/8″ strips. Do not cut/trim the last one, it will measure about 2″. Open and separate into right and left strip sets. Repeat with the remaining sets stacking like strips together as sown below. (Please excuse the mess under my table.)
- Working with the right strip group, chose one strip from each pile mixing colors so there are no duplicates. I made piles of each strip set so I didn’t get confused and making sure there were no duplicates. I suppose you could sew each block as you go. Repeat with the left strip group. Sew You should have 6 (8) right blocks and 6 (8) left blocks.
- Using background 2 1/2″ x 9 1/2″ strips, sew one on small colored strip side of each block. Press and trim to 9 1/2″ square making a scrappy Majestic Mountain block.
I hope I haven’t confused you too much. Mixing the strips make it a little tricky but I know you can do it!!!
The next clue will show up on March 12th.
Until then…….Happy Quilting!
