New Year and a New Mystery

New Year and a New Mystery
Charlotte Hawkes Jan 15, 2025

The neighbor kids made this snowman a couple days ago. He’s was cute but now I guess he’s looking a little worse for wear. Looks like he lost an eye. I’m surprised one of the local wildlife hasn’t taken off with his carrot nose. I was hoping to feature a pouch of french fries but I don’t know how to get that image other than if I actually took a picture. A lot of this techy stuff just does not compute to my addled brain. And of course I waited until today to try and find one instead of figuring it out before hand. So I settled for a next door snowman! Oh well, it is what it is!

So here we are with a raft of new people wanting to join in the mystery. Welcome newbies! I hope you have fun. Just follow along with the directions and pictures and you should be fine. No apologies, but I still like to do things the old way……love my HST (half square triangles)! If you have another way to make them (like the 8 at a time method) I have an opportunity for you but you’ll have to figure out the measurements yourself. When I see the draw the line and sew on either side I just cut it in half and sew it up. Makes for one less step in my mind. We will be doing some of that line drawing too but not for HST’s. Just do what makes you happy!

I didn’t get a lot of response naming this quilt. It pretty much was a tie between Scrappy French Fries and Funky French Fries so I got to pick. And so with no typical quilty  names….Scrappy French Fries it is. When we’re done maybe you’ll see what I mean with the name.

Well let’s get started! We’ll get the boring stuff done first. Actually I don’t think it’s boring but some do. I love chaining all the pieces together……assembly line! Then making sure I have different combinations. No matchy matching….I just audition those scrappy bits so there is a good mix. I don’t want any blocks the same if I can help it. Here we go!
